There is nothing like taking a stroll along the beautiful scenic routes that our island offers while visiting businesses that provide a truly local experience. Whether it’s a family outing or a jangueo with friends, chinchorreo is already part of our culture. If the countryside and the mountains are your thing, check out this article on some chinchorreo routes around the center of the island. Here’s our list of coastal chinchorreo routes so you can have a tropical Christmas!

– Route #1: Barceloneta and Arecibo –

1. El Bohío del Gran Pescador

Start your chinchorreo route by eating a delicious fried food from El Bohío del Gran Pescador. This spot is best known for its alcapurrias de jueyes. The best part? They fry them on the spot.

2. El Playero

For a beer or a drink in front of the sea, this is your next spot. 

3. El Clandestino 

A very rustic chinchorro, with a very relaxed vibe. Beers, drinks, snacks, good music and a good atmosphere overlooking the sea.

4. Waikiki Bar

A small and cute spot where it’s worth stopping for a piña colada of the house.

5. Chameleon Bar & Grill

Stop here for lunch for the day, then walk to the Columbus statue.

6. Bocata Smokehouse

A rustic style, good music and a good tropi atmosphere. When you go to Bocata you have to try the Sangria Verde. A product made here in Puerto Rico. Super refreshing and natural.

7. Reef 681 

Finish the chinchorreo route by stopping for lunch at this restaurant. Known for its stuffed mofongos and all the fish they cook. Dinner with ocean view to close the chinchorreo with a golden brooch.

 

– Route #2: Isabela, Aguadilla and Rincon – 

1. Chinchorro 113 

Your first stop on this route is at the border of Quebradillas and Isabela. If you are a mojito lover, you will be amazed with all the combinations you can order at Mojito Mojito. The perfect spot for mojito tasters.

2. Mirador de Guajataca

This is not a chinchorro, but it is an essential stop on this route. Enjoy the beautiful view and, if you go on the weekend, buy yourself a beer and a “Va llena” (empanadilla filled with all kinds of fish) at the guaguita.

3. Your Mojito 

And if you are a real mojito lover, you can also stop at Tu Mojito to continue tasting.

4. Uma’s 

For an experience of Eurasian cuisine and a beach atmosphere, we recommend you stop at Uma’s, a restaurant located in Playa Jobos.

5. KAI

Walk a few minutes from Uma’s and you arrive at KAI beach bar. Nothing better than having a cold beer, appreciating the beauty of Jobos.

6. Aguadilla Food Truck Park 

And for the food stop, take a ride to Aguadilla Food Truck Park. Burgers, handmade pastas, Peruvian food, Asian food, you name it. A different food experience.

7. The Beer Box

This is a must-stop for beer lovers. This Restaurant and Tap Room has an extensive variety of craft beers that you can try.

8. Tamboo

Located on Sandy Beach in Rincon, Tamboo is known for its super chill and tropical atmosphere. Perfect for lounging on the beach for the rest of the day.

 

– Route #3: Loíza, Luquillo and Fajardo –

1. Puerta del Mar 

Start the eastern route the right way, eating some alcapurrias in Piñones. 

2. La Casita Amarilla 

La Casita Amarilla offers a cozy atmosphere, a spectacular view of the sea, snacks and house drinks. That’s all you can ask for.

3. K’Rajo Beach Bar 

A colorful chinchorro, perfect spot for drinks on the beach.

4. The Luquillo Kiosks
